NETGEAR Sets New Standard for Affordability in Wireless-N SSL VPN Firewall for Small Businesses

Industry’s most complete secure connectivity appliance under $180

SAN JOSE, Calif. – Sept. 13, 2011 — NETGEAR®, Inc. (NASDAQGM: NTGR), a global networking company that delivers innovative products to consumers, businesses and service providers, announces a new benchmark for small business connectivity. The NETGEAR ProSafe® Wireless-N 8-port Gigabit VPN Firewall (FVS318N) includes an all-in-one router, wireless-N access point, gigabit switch and SSL VPN firewall for less than $180.

The FVS318N offers small businesses reliable, affordable and simple connectivity features that previously came together at a 50 percent higher cost. A comprehensive suite of remote connectivity support simplifies Virtual Private Networks (VPNs):

  • Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) VPNs give remote workers secure connections through a browser. Businesses no longer need to purchase and configure VPN client software.
  • Internet Protocol Security (IPsec) VPNs connect the FVS318N to third-party firewalls in other locations. Businesses may also purchase NETGEAR VPN software to connect the FVS318N to individual users.

Complete local area network connectivity comes via Wireless-N WiFi and eight wired Gigabit Ethernet ports. A simple, browser-based interface with helpful wizards saves time and eliminates complexity when connecting to ISPs and establishing VPNs.

As with all NETGEAR ProSafe business-class firewalls, the FVS318N is housed in a steel case and carries NETGEAR’s lifetime warranty.

“Small businesses face the same online security threats as big businesses, and they need to offer services like remote user access and connections to remote servers that can’t be fully protected by consumer-level routers,” said Jeff Wilson, Principal Analyst for Security at Infonetics Research. “Small businesses can now find firewalls with robust security features like SSL VPN, SPI, configurable DMZ, and DoS protection, capabilities which until recently were only available in expensive and complex enterprise-class solutions.”

“The NETGEAR ProSafe Wireless-N VPN Firewall is a surprisingly affordable unit packed with more features than any other router on the market at this level. Despite all the features available to the user, the interface is easy to understand, so as not to be overwhelming for inexperienced users," said Tyler Cain, Head of Information Technology at Cain Sales Company, a supplier of construction materials in Atlanta.

“The FVS318 product family has been an industry leader for the better part of a decade. We’re continuing this tradition of innovation with the FVS318N,” said Jason Leung, Senior Product Marketing Manager for Commercial Security Solutions at NETGEAR. “We’re committed to delivering smart IT, not big IT, with products that are reliable, affordable, and simple. The FVS318N embodies all these qualities and a multitude of connectivity options at an incredibly affordable price.”
