Nuuk City Council, the governing body of Greenland’s capital, needed a modern, user-friendly, and future-proof conference system to facilitate city council meetings, events, and video conferences. AV Center Ålborg, in collaboration with Lydrommet AS (Norway) and Septon a/s (Denmark), delivered a state-of-the-art solution integrating Televic’s advanced conference technology and NETGEAR’s AVoIP switches. The system ensures seamless communication, high-quality audio and video, and intuitive control for technical and non-technical users.

INTRODUCTION

Nuuk, the capital of Greenland, is home to approximately 19,000 residents. As the political and administrative hub of the country, its city council required a high-performance AV system that would facilitate clear communication during meetings while supporting multiple languages, video conferencing, and seamless operation. To achieve this, a solution was developed to enhance efficiency, improve user experience, and provide scalability for future needs.

THE CHALLENGE

The Nuuk City Council faced several key challenges in upgrading its conference system:

THE SOLUTION

AV Center Ålborg designed and implemented a customized conference system that integrates multiple state-of-the-art technologies to address these challenges.

The system features a comprehensive audio conference setup with Televic Confidia F Flushmount conference microphones, each equipped with LED indicators, talk buttons, and integrated speakers, alongside Televic Confero 360 software for microphone, speaker list, and voting management. Interpreter access is provided for each council member via headphones, ensuring seamless multilingual support.

The camera solution incorporates Televic T-Cam camera control, which operates four Lumens VC-A50N cameras, automatically keeping speakers in focus. To support interpretation, the system includes two Televic Lingua ID interpreting stations with real-time video and audio displays and twelve Listen IR receivers for guests.

Video conferencing and VoIP functionality is enhanced through three Polycom RealPresence Group 310 systems supporting Greenlandic, Danish, and floor sound, as well as two BSS BLU103 VoIP audio processors accommodating up to four phone lines. The audio and video solution comprises fifteen JBL Control 16 CT ceiling speakers delivering superior speech and music reproduction, complemented by four AKG HM1000 pendant microphones that capture floor sound.

A central cube display with four screens provides clear visuals for all participants, with additional PC screens installed in the municipal director’s office and interpretation room. The system uses an intuitive 10” touchscreen interface that offers pre-programmed meeting scenarios for city council meetings, video conferences, and public events, allowing quick and easy system control.

Connectivity and central technology are powered by NETGEAR AVoIP switches for high-speed data transmission, a Televic Plixus central unit for seamless AV integration, and a Crown digital amplifier ensuring high-quality audio output.

The system is coordinated through a Crestron Master Control Unit and video matrix, with HDMI and XLR inputs/outputs facilitating external device connections.
