NETGEAR Achieves EU RED Cybersecurity Certification for stand-alone and Insight cloud-managed Wi-Fi 6 and -7 Access Points.
NETGEAR is proud to announce that our Wi-Fi Access Point families, WAX210, WAX610, WAX620, WAX605, WAX610W, WBE700, WBE710, and WBE750, have officially received RED Cybersecurity Certification under the European Union’s Radio Equipment Directive.
This certification marks a significant milestone in our commitment to security, compliance, and product excellence, particularly at a time when wireless networks are a foundational layer of every business IT environment.
The updated EU Radio Equipment Directive (RED), specifically Article 3.3 (d), (e), and (f), introduces mandatory cybersecurity requirements for wireless devices. These rules address the protection of personal data, the prevention of network misuse, and the resilience of connected products against cyber threats.
The associated technical standard, EN 18031, outlines how devices must be designed, configured, and maintained to meet those obligations. Compliance includes proving:
The certification process is thorough, requiring technical validation of how these principles are implemented, not just in software, but across manufacturing, user documentation, and support infrastructure.
Achieving this certification was far from routine. Over many months, NETGEAR teams worked closely with security auditors and test labs, aligning our architecture with every clause of the EN 18031 framework. That included proving we had implemented secure storage protocols, verifying cryptographic key uniqueness, show how we are enforcing password policies, and also documenting how update integrity is preserved across our lifecycle tools.
The process required full traceability; every control needed to be demonstrable, from the login mechanisms in our user interface to how logs persist through device reboots.
This wasn’t a “checkbox” exercise. It demanded engineering-level security-by-design across our access point portfolio. At several stages, some features had to be reworked, firmware re-signed, and factory processes adapted to comply with the evolving regulatory interpretation.
For IT and network managers in Europe, compliance with the RED technical standard EN 1803 is a legal requirement for deploying wireless infrastructure. By certifying our access points in advance, NETGEAR gives businesses a more straightforward, faster path to compliance, without compromise.
You gain confidence that your wireless devices meet Europe’s highest cybersecurity standards, which in turn supports internal security policies, procurement approvals, and vendor risk assessments.
More importantly, this milestone reflects our broader mission: to be a trusted partner in delivering not just performance and affordability, but security and regulatory peace of mind.
NETGEAR’s RED certification is a proud achievement, but also a promise. As cybersecurity standards continue to evolve, we remain committed to leading the way with secure, transparent, and future-ready enterprise-grade networking solutions.
For our customers and partners, that means access points you can deploy with confidence, today and tomorrow.
