What is Power over Ethernet (PoE)

Power over Ethernet (PoE) provides power and network connectivity for PoE-powered devices over a single network cable. It's a 2-in-1 solution, so you don’t have the restriction that your devices are close to a power outlet. PoE devices range from wireless access points, IP cameras, VoIP phones, PoE LED lighting, PoE speakers to IoT doorbells and other IoT devices. These devices are powered and in some cases manageable by our PoE switches.

With PoE

One Ethernet cable provides power AND connectivity

Features

LOWER INFRASTRUCTURE AND INSTALLATION COSTS
Fewer, separate power adapters are needed and only one cable run is required rather than two.
CENTRALIZED CONTROL
Manage power to devices from a centralized switch. Power down/up devices as required for energy and cost savings.
NO NEED FOR ELECTRICIANS
Uses existing IT networking infrastructure.
EXTENDS WIRED AND WIRELESS NETWORK REACH
Not limited to fixed power outlet placements.
OVERCOMES HARD TO WIRE ENVIRONMENTS
Including old or ‘protected’ buildings.
RELIABILITY
Redundant Power Supply (RPS) backup options helps keep devices running even in the event of a power outage. Important for business critical services, such as IP Telephony based Call Centers.
PoE (802.3af)
Type 1:
The original PoE standard provides 15.4W of power to the Ethernet port to be sent = 12.95W of delivered power at 100M distance from the switch.
PoE+(802.3at)
Type 2:
PoE+ effectively doubles the PoE power to the device by providing 30W of power to the Ethernet port to be sent = 25.5W of delivered power at 100M distance from the switch.
PoE++(802.3bt)
Type 3 and 4:
PoE++ (bt) now effectively doubles the PoE+ power to the device by providing 60W (Type 3) or 90W (Type 4) of power

PoE for Surveillance

Network connectivity is critical in any surveillance installation that enables all the other surveillance functions – transmitting video streams, manage, store and carry power to the cameras using Power over Ethernet (PoE). The adoption of PoE devices is growing widely along with technology and digital advancements, especially in surveillance.
