NETGEAR EXPANDS MOBILE PORTFOLIO WITH 450 MBPS CATEGORY 9 LTE ADVANCED MOBILE HOTSPOT

See a live demonstration of LTE Category 9 technology as supported by NETGEAR in Qualcomm’s booth at Mobile World Congress trade show

BARCELONA, Spain — March 2, 2015 — NETGEAR®, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTGR) (www.netgear.com), a global networking company that delivers innovative products to service providers, consumers, and businesses, will demonstrate its first Category 9 LTE Advanced technology at the Mobile World Congress trade show held March 2-5 in Barcelona, Spain. NETGEAR will highlight this technology with an AirCard® mobile hotspot in Hall 5, Stand 5F21, of the Fira Gran Via Exhibition Center, along with the rest of the company’s LTE, WiFi and networking product portfolio.

This LTE Category 9 AirCard mobile hotspot represents the first in the next generation of 4G LTE products from NETGEAR supporting 4G LTE Advanced Category 9 and 3-Carrier Aggregation. It aggregates up to three bands to provide up to 60 MHz of bandwidth for a potential download speed up to 450 Mbps*. The hotspot is enabled by the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ X12 LTE modem from Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. (QTI), a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated, and a QCA6174 2-stream 802.11ac Wi-Fi chipset from Qualcomm Atheros, Inc., a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated (www.qualcomm.com).

"The 3-Carrier Downlink Aggregation of Category 9 LTE Advanced has the potential to offer up to 50 percent faster peak download speeds than Cat 6, enabling better performance, reduced latency, and more reliable connectivity for the end user," said Jim Kirkpatrick, senior vice president, LTE Products at NETGEAR. "Category 9 capability makes it easy to attain improved throughput and swifter application response times, providing a better overall experience for streaming data-heavy applications such as multimedia and video."

Attendees at Mobile World Congress will have two sites where they can learn more about the NETGEAR LTE Category 9 technology:

  • NETGEAR booth, Hall 5, Stand 5F21 (display only)
  • Qualcomm booth, Hall 3, Stand 3E10 (Category 9 demonstration)

"NETGEAR shares our vision of making ultra-fast broadband connectivity available to mobile consumers everywhere," said Serge Willenegger, vice president of product management, Qualcomm Technologies. "With the advanced combination of our Snapdragon X12 LTE modem and QCA6174 Wi-Fi solution, the NETGEAR AirCard is designed to provide reliable, high-performance connectivity when and where you need it."
