First, let me say how extremely honored and excited I am to have been selected as NETGEAR’s CES Blogger in Residence.

Second, holy smokes! As a Consumer Electronics Show virgin, I’m astounded at the sheer size of the event. The Las Vegas Convention Center is composed of several multi-floor buildings. And it’s not enough… So the grounds around the LVCC are covered with tents and pavilions. Sufficient? Nope. CES has also taken over the Sands Convention Center about a mile away. That brings us to over 1.7 million square feet. Just when I think we’ve met our presentation space needs met, I learn Digital Experience (Caesars), ShowStoppers (Wynn), and dozens of companies (parties and dinners) have set up shop up and down The Strip.

So what does it take to be one of the 2,700 exhibitors? Looks like you need some tech-related product announcements and a large bankroll. Even smaller companies are dropping $500,000 to a cool million to get the word out here in Vegas. It may also be helpful to have a few folks on staff proficient in forklift and crane operation.
