Software Engineer

Position: Senior Software Engineer (VoIP and ADSL)

Location: Santa Clara, CA.

Summary Description:
As a member of the Carrier Products engineering team, you will be responsible for managing the design of Voice over IP (VoIP) and/or ADSL products for the residential and small business market. These products will incorporate one or several of the following technologies: VoIP, ADSL, Cable Modem, 802.11 Wireless, Ethernet, VPN, Firewalls.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage the entire product lifecycle, including product definition, product architecture, selection of hardware and software vendors, selection of manufacturing partners, managing overseas design team, lab and field testing and supporting the product after production.
  • Work closely with Product Marketing, Sales and potential customers directly to define new products or customization of existing products.
  • Manage the suppliers' product development process.
  • Perform verification testing of product features and performance.
  • Assist sales in qualifying products for customers.
  • Set up and help lab engineer maintain in-house VoIP lab.
  • Request and prioritize new features and bug fixes.
  • Provide input for manuals, help files, application notes and tech support web pages.
  • Monitor any 3rd level technical support escalations through Netgear technical support.
  • Some domestic and international travel is required.

 

Skills and Requirements

  • In depth knowledge of VoIP software. Must be well versed with VoIP protocols such as H.323 and SIP.
  • Design experience with ADSL products.
  • Knowledge of DOCSIS and/or PacketCable is a plus.
  • Engineering background with significant experience in product development.
  • Strong understanding of the development cycle of technology products.
  • Effective organization, project management and coordination skills; ability to get the job done.
  • Ability to track and resolve issues.
  • Ability and willingness to take ownership of product; ability to get the job done with minimal supervision.
  • Strong understanding of basic networking, routing and Windows networking.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experience working in a start-up environment.
  • Self-starter that works well on a team.
  • Fluency in Mandarin is a plus.
