- Education: BSEE. (MSEE preferred)
- 5 and 10 years R&D experience in RF design at the board level from 0 to 6GHz. Experience of RF IC design is a plus.
- Must have successfully designed, implemented and debugged several RF boards up to 2.5 GHz or 5.5GHz for wireless LAN products.
- Experience with one or several of the following highly desirable: VCOs, PLL, PA, LNA, mixers, filters, QPSK modulation/demodulation.
- Good knowledge of various physical layer architectures and standards, including OFDM, 802.11b, 802.11g or 802.11a.
- Experience with one/more of the following simulation program: ADS, SPICE, Touchstone. Knowledge of MathCad, Matlab, and LabVIEW is a plus.
- Experience with qualifying and testing of physical layer 802.11b, 802.11g or 802.11a products (physical layer).
- Experience with improving and reviewing the performance of wireless LAN boards in a short time.
- Good knowledge of communication theory and signal processing.
- Very good knowledge of RF indoor propagation and models, etc. Very good knowledge of antenna characterization. Solid experience in RF board layout, shielding, EMC, etc.
- Solid experience with RF lab equipment. Experience with VSA, spectrum analyzer, VSG, network analyzer, oscilloscope, power meter, etc. Able to issue, implement and/or improve on test procedures.
- Excellent practical sense. Debugged a board, changing SMD components (from 0402), soldering RF cable or adapters must not be a problem, etc.
- Demonstrated oral and written communications skills, as the position requires extensive vendor and overseas manufacturing interface. Knowledge of MS office and MS project. Good project management experience is mandatory. Able to properly document and write reports.
- Autonomous and self-driven and working well within a small team.
Responsibilities
The candidate will be overseeing and developing 2.4GHz and 5GHz WLAN products. Develop shielding designs as needed to comply with FCC and performance requirements. Develop characterization and production test procedures for RF subsystems of WLAN product reference designs. Integrate and test RF subsystems of WLAN product reference designs. Work to improve the Bill of Materials for the Antenna, FEIC subsystems, and RF subsystem in terms of cost and performance. Support the certification and compliance testing of the companyís product reference designs, as needed (e.g. FCC, WECA/WiFi).
The designs will be targeted at USB, CardBus, PCMCIA, mini-PCI, PCI, and Access Point form factors. Lead the development of a cost effective solution. Work with 3rd party suppliers to develop RF circuitry to address the power amplifier, filtering, and switching subsystem for the reference design. Supervise the detailed design and implementation of the FR subsystems for the targeted form factors.
