Position: SMB Switch Product Manager

Reports To: PLM for SMB switch products

As one of our Network Switch Product Managers with worldwide impact based in Santa Clara, you will act as the General Manager for the products you support. You will manage all aspects of each product's success including pricing, lifecycle management, and ultimate profitability. You will also work with R&D, Operations, Finance, and our technology ODM partners, ensuring all key aspects of the business are addressed. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee and grow revenue and profit margin for NETGEAR’s SMB-based switching platform.
  • Collaborates with the PLM for Product Strategy and Roadmap for the product targeted to business customers that can sustain a competitive advantage and is supported by NETGEAR management.
  • Defines goals and strategy to achieve product leadership, achieves cross-functional support and executes.
  • Assesses needs and opportunities for new products through market research and feasibility analysis.  Defines, constantly reviews, and differentiates the feature sets of the products active in the product life cycle.  Creates a compelling Value Proposition that best meets the Target Customer needs and a go-to-market strategy and plan teaming with Delivery Marketing and Sales.
  • Executes on channel distribution strategy for the product.
  • Establishes pricing strategy, monitors competitive price/position, and initiates price changes as needed.
  • Initiates the NPI process including Phase 0, business case, and market requirements.  Partners closely with the Program managers to ensure product is delivered on time with appropriate cost, time, features and performance trade-offs.  Ensures a compelling Business Case & Product Requirements Plan is developed, reviewed and approved.
  • Directs Beta Test process for new product introductions.
  • Drives accurate targeting of product unit and revenue forecasts for product.  Drives the monthly demand assessment and pricing plans for the product, in collaboration with the PLM.  Works closely with operations to ensure appropriate supply consistent with volume plans and sell-through actuals.
  • Works with the WW sales teams to ensure that a complete sales plan is in place in support of the product launch and volume plan.
  • Monitors revenue, costs, and sell-through and initiates actions to achieve life cycle volumes and margins, and directs transition and EOL actions.  Actively engages with the sales organizations to understand market acceptance, develop sales plans, and understand feature/performance enhancements needed to maintain the product in the market over time.
  • Ensures a service and support plan is in place for the new product.
  • Directs the preparation of all collateral and sales tools (Product Sheets, Ad Copies, Channel Fact Sheets, Positioning Statements, White Papers, Solutions Guides, PR plans, etc) for a successful product launch and channel engagement.  Works actively with marketing communications and product delivery/channel marketing functions to ensure appropriate deliverables to support sales initiatives.
  • Conducts regular market analysis and demonstrates thorough understanding of technology trends, competitive updates, channel performance, pricing and user requirements.
  • Participates and drives Business Development, Training, and Industry Events activities worldwide for his/her responsible products.
  • Understands the product role within the product line and takes the role as internal expert as well as external spokesperson and evangelist for NETGEAR on the product and technology.
  • Regularly visits customers worldwide.  Visits Taiwan/other ODM vendors and technology providers often.
  • Achieves market share and financial (i.e. profit margin, revenue, demand assessment accuracy and inventory) objectives.

Qualifications

  • Strong experience in managing a team toward common goals and achievements.
  • Ability to communicate & gain support for project vision.
  • Strong understanding of network infrastructure and technology related to product line.
  • Ability to analyze market and technology trends and assess the optimal course of action for profitability.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing an ongoing product for growth and profitability.
  • Good interpersonal skills and able to work well with people at all technical levels, all management levels, and with sales organizations.
  • Mature communication with partners, peers and managers.  Skillful verbal and writing abilities and effective presentation skills.
  • 5-10 years of product management/marketing experience with demonstrated knowledge of networking technology, industry and branding.
  • Thorough understanding of small/medium business, tech products a must.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills to focus internal resources, coordinate R&D and sales force and all functional departments, and coordinate business partners.
  • Demonstrated management skills and strong abilities to resolve conflicts.
  • Proven track record of driving product and business strategy for a major product category.
  • B.S./B.A. minimum, MBA or related master’s degree preferred.
