Title: Director of Cable Technologist

Job Function:
To provide subject-matter-expert expertise and Systems Engineering support to customers for all Cable specific products and initiatives. Intrinsic leadership role in providing necessary NETGEAR consultative input for Cable Centric RFIs and RFPs, as well as to provide similar consultation for all strategic product development efforts.

Work closely with Cablelabs to participate and influence technology direction and build relationship with Cablelabs. Work closely with the OCTO groups within all cable customers to understand their business requirements and direction to provide ideas and future product direction to position Netgear as a strategic supplier to the cable market.

EXPERIENCE:
Attributes

• More than 7 years in support of networking products within the service provider market
• Ability to communicate and build relationship with CTO, CIO, and other C’s level customers
• Credible both with customers as well as internal engineering
• Must be able to architect solutions from existing products and understand MSO network evolution
• Ability to quickly learn and articulate new technologies and solutions
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Requires extensive travel
• SCTE or NCTA member preferred but not required
• Experience in developing requirements and standards for recognized standard bodies
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or equivalent. MBA is a plus.

• Must have existing strong relationship with senior staff and principals within the NA MSO OCTO and other groups
• Prior extensive work experience at an MSO or cable supplier
• Must have strong existing relationships in CableLabs and SCTE organizations
• Experienced working with NA MSOs in HFC and DOCSIS technologies
• Experience in understanding and working with the DOCSIS silicon suppliers product offerings
• Must be familiar with Tru2Way and other Digital TV standards

• Must be familiar with the end-to-end architecture for all MSO services
• Hands on experience with HFC equipment: CMTS, CM, eMTA
• In depth knowledge of DOCSIS provisioning steps
• Experienced competencies in both the Analog (RF) and Digital (IP) Realms
• Must understand an HFC network and its components
• Understanding of Cable TV in an MSO environment
• Experienced with troubleshooting DOCSIS issues in MSO networks
  

• Must be familiar with PacketCable (NGCP and SIP) and IMS
• In depth knowledge of PacketCable provisioning steps
• Hands on experience with Cable VoIP equipment e..g BTS
• Exhibit knowledge in associated areas e.g. DECT, Mobile integration
• Experienced with troubleshooting Voice issues in MSO networks

• Experienced in IP Networking technologies to include but not limited to routing, switching, IP subnetting, MEF protocols etc
• Understanding of protocols: TCP/IP, DHCP, SNMP, HTTP, SMTP, DLNA, VPN, etc
• Hands on experience with configuring router, switches, and telco equipment
• Experienced with troubleshooting IP networks
• Understanding and application of IPv6
• CCNA, CCNP, CCIE or other networking certifications preferred but not required
